David H.
British Expat, Bangkok
I received a call from the police on a Tuesday morning regarding an incident I had already reported myself. I did not know I was entitled to have a lawyer present at the interview. Prakit attended with me the following day, advised me on what I was and was not required to say, and helped me prepare a brief written account beforehand. The interview lasted less than an hour. I cannot say the outcome would have been different without legal support, but I was considerably less at risk of saying something unhelpful.

My brother was detained following an incident at work. We had no idea how bail functioned here or what documentation was needed. Nattawan guided us through the entire process — what to gather, who needed to act as surety, and what the court would be looking for. The application was filed within two days of our first call and bail was granted at the hearing. The conditions were explained to us clearly afterwards so my brother understood exactly what he needed to observe.

French National, Visiting Bangkok
I received a Thai-language summons document that I could not read. I had limited time before I needed to make decisions about whether to remain in Bangkok or return home first. The charge sheet review was exactly what I needed — a clear written explanation in English of what the charge involved, what the prosecution would need to show, and what the procedural timeline looked like. Apirak delivered it within two days. It let me make an informed decision rather than a panicked one.

The fixed fee structure was important to us. We were already managing the stress of the situation and the last thing we needed was uncertainty about costs. Knowing from the start what the bail application would cost — and that there would be no additions — made the whole process easier to manage. Nattawan was thorough and responsive. We felt the matter was in capable hands.

I had spoken to a general practice lawyer who told me to come back when charges were formally laid. Sukhothai took a different view. Prakit attended the police station with me for what turned out to be an exploratory interview. He advised me throughout and helped me give a statement that addressed the points at issue without creating new ones. I am not sure the other lawyer was wrong, but I am glad I had someone present.

Canadian, Phuket-Based
My husband received a summons while we were in Phuket. We contacted Sukhothai by email the same evening. The charge sheet review was something neither of us had heard of as a service — we assumed we would need to retain a lawyer for the full matter immediately. The written review gave us clarity on what the charge actually required, which helped us assess whether full representation was necessary at that stage. Apirak's analysis was precise and plain in its language.

Case Summaries
Matter outcomes — three examples
The following summaries describe the general shape of three matters. Identifying details have been altered or omitted with client agreement.
Challenge
Expatriate called for police interview without notice
A foreign national employed in Bangkok received a phone call requesting attendance at a central Bangkok police station the following morning. The person had no Thai-language ability and was unaware of their right to bring counsel. They called us the evening before the scheduled interview.
What We Did
Same-day review, morning attendance
We reviewed the circumstances described by phone, confirmed the scope and fee that evening, and attended the police station the following morning. We advised on rights, assisted with the prepared statement, and attended throughout the interview. A written note was provided afterwards.
Outcome
Interview completed; no charge resulted
The interview was completed without incident. The client's statement addressed the points raised directly. No charge was laid. The client continued their employment in Bangkok. Timeline: matter resolved over two days from first contact.
Challenge
Custody following a disputed business matter
A Thai national was remanded in custody following a disputed financial transaction. The family contacted us the day after remand, having been unable to obtain bail information through other channels. Flight risk was raised as the primary concern by the opposing party.
What We Did
Documentation-focused bail application
We focused the bail application on the client's deep community ties — ten years at the same address, family in Bangkok, regular employment. Sureties were coordinated over two days. The application directly addressed the flight risk concern with specific documentation.
Outcome
Bail granted with conditions at first hearing
Bail was granted at the first hearing with reporting and travel conditions. The client was released and conditions were explained in full. Pre-trial hearings proceeded with the client present throughout. Timeline: bail obtained within four days of first contact.
Challenge
Visitor receives summons two days before departure
A European visitor received a police summons relating to an incident from three months earlier. The summons was in Thai. The visitor had a scheduled departure in four days and did not know whether to cancel travel or proceed. They needed to understand what they were being asked to respond to.
What We Did
Written charge review — delivered in 48 hours
We received the scanned summons by email and produced a written English-language review within 48 hours. The review explained the statutory basis of the summons, the procedural obligations, the realistic timeline, and the options available to the visitor given their travel plans.
Outcome
Informed decision; travel proceeded with conditions
The review made clear that the summons did not prevent departure and set out the procedural steps that would follow. The visitor departed as scheduled and engaged separate representation to manage the matter remotely. Timeline: review delivered within 48 hours of receiving the document.
